Get the Look: Carnival Fashion for the 2017 Bay of Plenty Export Extravaganza

Struggling for costume ideas? Here’s what to wear to this year’s export awards.

If you’ve been to our Export awards before, you’ll know they’ve earned a reputation for not only being one of the best parties in the Bay, but for guests sporting fabulous costumes and going all out. #nopressure

This year will be no exception. So, what are you going to wear?

First, let’s set the scene – the Rio Carnival is one of the biggest parties on the planet. Guests flock from all over the world to join in the festivities some paying up to $10,000 to join in the floats of the most prestigious samba schools.

What to expect:

  1. There are no limits, and no rules.
  2. Traditional costumes include clowns, the midnight robber and roosters.
  3. Feathers, sequins, glitter and toucans abound.

Just make sure you can dance to the rhythms of the samba comfortably, because only one thing is for sure; the night will be an extravagant, unforgettable experience.

To get your creative juices flowing, we’ve come up with a few mood boards to get you started.

It’s a great idea to theme your table. Table = float. Float = theme. Theme = costumes together.

You may want to go as different clowns, different birds, different colours etc. Share a similar prop so we know who you belong to, or wear the same hat, mask or sash.

We’ve gone one step further and the kind folk at Look Sharp, Tauranga Crossing have agreed to give all ExportNZ Awards guests a 10% discount off their costumes and props for the event. All you have to do is:

  1. Ask for the discount for the ExportNZ event
  2. Mention ‘Belinda’ as the reference name
  3. Staff will ask a secret question - Q: What carnival are you going to? A: Rio!

So, get your google on (just don’t forget to turn safe search on too)!

Get to The Crossing, and get organised. You don’t want to be underdressed (or maybe you do…)
